Echinoid Spermatozoa Data Request
Dear Colleagues,
As recently presented during the 17th IEC in Puerto de la Cruz, a colleague
and I are in the process of assembling a large database on echinoid
spermatozoa. Our goal is to cover as many species as possible in order to
better understand how echinoid sperm evolved. Our primary source of data has
so far been the literature, but we have also gathered novel data for some of
the more under-researched taxa.
We are now in the process of finalizing our analyses and would be extremely
grateful if you could support us with data on sea urchin spermatozoa so that
in an ideal scenario we can expand our list of species covered. We are
interested in the following information:
- Sperm/sperm head measurements (e.g. 6 µm long, 2 µm wide)
- Imagery showing sperm morphology (e.g. LM, SEM, video)
- Imagery showing sperm ultrastructure (e.g. SEM, TEM)
During the publication process of our study, these sperm data will be made
available via the SpermTree Database (https://spermtree.org/). We hope that
our comprehensive study will serve the echinoid community as a valuable
tool.
Should you have data on echinoid sperm and be willing to share it with us,
please contact me via
Your help would be much appreciated.
Best,
Alex
